Osewan Community Conservancy protects wildlife corridors within the Amboseli ecosystem while building sustainable livelihoods for the Maasai landowners who call this land home. Every initiative — from ranger patrols to youth training — is designed and led by the community itself.
Osewan rangers patrol vital migration corridors linking Amboseli, Tsavo, and the wider conservancy network, preventing poaching and reducing human-wildlife conflict so elephants, lions, giraffes, and zebras can move freely across the landscape.
Land-lease income and conservation employment give Maasai landowners a direct stake in keeping the ecosystem intact, turning conservation into a sustainable and dignified source of income for local families in Emotoroki and beyond.
The Youth Rangers Programme trains young community members as junior rangers, passing traditional ecological knowledge to the next generation while building a pipeline of future conservancy leaders.
Osewan's community-led model under Ramat Wildlife Society umbrella has been recognised by the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA),Soils for the Future Africa and the Kenya Conservation Fund (KCF), the conservancy works closely with the Amboseli Ecosystem Trust to protect the wider Amboseli–Tsavo wildlife corridor.
